The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government has announced the successful applications for Round 1 of the Growing Regions program and first block of projects under regional Precincts and Partnerships Projects (rPPP) funding.

Funding will provide local government entities and not-for-profit organisations with funding for capital works projects and community-focused infrastructure projects that deliver community and economic benefits which revitalises regions and enhances amenity and liveability throughout regional Australia.

Locally, five projects in our region have received Growing Regions Program funding and two projects have received funding under rPPP.

Growing Regions Round 1 – Successful local projects

Cassowary Coast Regional Council – $7,924,508
Mission Beach Town Centre Revitalisation Project (Stage 2)
The project will restore town centre facilities and services to support tourism and improve safety.

The Uniting Church, Mossman – $743,843
Multifunctional OSHC, education and community space for Mossman.
The project will construct a multi-purpose, community accessible complex including an activity centre and mobility friendly church.

Mareeba Shire Council – $849,197
Mareeba Lake and Parkland Upgrade
This project will upgrade lake and parkland areas to improve accessibility and promote physical activity.

Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council – $13,495,190
Northern Peninsula Area Airport Runway Upgrade
The project will upgrade the airport runway to ensure future operations and to deliver community-focused infrastructure for the benefit of locals and industry.

Etheridge Shire Council – $8,235,000
Unearth Etheridge: Tourism Developments along the Savannah Way
This project will include an extension to the Terrestrial Centre in Georgetown, a bird sanctuary viewing hub at Cumberland Dam, improved walkways and visitor signage at the Einasleigh People’s Museum at Copperfield Gorge, and the creation of ‘Our Elders Trail’ in Georgetown.

rPPP (Regional Precincts and Partnerships) -Funding Stream 1 – Successful local projects

Croydon Shire Council – $2,813,500
Croydon Precinct Growth Plan
Funding will support the delivery of a shovel ready master plan to support both economic and population growth in Croydon over the next 10 to 15 years.

Mareeba Shire Council – $2,143,249
Mareeba CBD Revitalisation
Funding will support the delivery of a precinct plan that will identify issues, opportunities and priorities to deliver the necessary improvements to activate and revitalise the Mareeba CBD.
